INSPIRATION FOR THE CREATION OF THE NOVEL

Lucid Dreams

What is a Lucid Dream?

Waking up in a dream. You keep on sleeping, but realize that it is a dream and the reality you are experiencing is not material. You can experience a dream like reality, but with the awareness that it is not real. Or is it? Somewhere beyond our perception of the physical world?

Trip to Symbolion in a Dream

Just like Kala, one of the main characters, I have lucid dreams. One night I dreamt of a little boy who took me on a journey into the ghostly world of “Symbolion”. As if I had found a “Little Prince” in the adult world to guide me through virtual reality. Gradually I got to know Jacques, the Secret Police Chief, Black Eye who oversees order in Symbolion, telepathic Lena and other persons, each narrating their own stories.

This is how the novel “Symbolion — City without Stars” was born, where the borders between reality and the virtual world disappear. How can we tell with certainty which one is real? Maybe both, and maybe neither.

Holographic Doctor from Star Trek

Another motivation to write “Symbolion” came quite inadvertently. It was sent to me by the unmistakable figure of the holographic doctor from Star Trek – the Voyager sci-fi series.
I simply fell in love with the edgy doctor who also expresses a great deal of humility. I wondered what it would be like if all of us were like this fictitious character and only had energy-based bodies exposed to energy fluctuations.
