The story takes us to a time when
there is only one City, which is protected against
the discharges of electromagnetic storms by a Hatch.
Lightning disrupts the integrity of the protective
shield, which represents a permanent danger to the
people living there. Their energy bodies are exposed
to energy fluctuations, and if their energy is not
sufficiently high, such discharges can prove fatal.
This is the case for Kala, girlfriend of journalist
Brett, whose energy is so low that her body might
melt at the next disruption of the shield.
Symbolion, a banned virtual game, is
circulating in the City.
The game is able to boost people’s energy.
However, there is also a risk involved on entering
the game. If a player does not pass through a game
level, his/her energy will be completely exhausted.
Unifier, the man with the most energy who controls
the City, is trying to track down the cards through
the Secret Police and to stop the game. The main
characters, Brett and his girlfriend Kala, enter the
virtual world of Symbolion and proceed through the
individual game levels. The symbolic incidents
reflect the meaning of life and the belief in
Their guide in the virtual world is
a young boy who views the world around him through a
child’s eyes. Upon first encounter, he resembles a
kind of “Little Prince” in the adult world.
The main protagonists gradually
realize that, subsequent to a certain catastrophe,
the whole planet has become stuck in a time loop.
The lives of the people in the City revolve in a
which they can only leave if they manage to increase
their energy. Brett and Kala join a group of
conspirators who secretly distribute the Symbolion
game cards among the people. In the underground
tunnels of the City, they discover a wormhole
through which they can get back to the past and
reverse the historical development.
